Golden hour is overrated bring on the blue hour.

Exploring the magic of Blue hour on the beach

While many of my photography clients request the golden hour for their sessions, I've found that blue hour is a hidden gem that deserves more attention. Golden hour's warm, golden light is undeniably beautiful, casting a lovely glow over landscapes. However, there's something uniquely captivating about the moments just after the sun sets, when the world is bathed in a gentle blue light. This time of day, known as blue hour, offers a fresh perspective, highlighting shadows and clouds in ways that golden hour cannot.

Last week, I dedicated more time to capturing the enchanting blue hour at the beach in Cooperstown, NY. The soft, airy colors that emerge during this twilight period create a serene atmosphere. For this beach photo session, we carefully selected the wardrobe to both enhance the natural beauty of the location and reflect the subjects' everyday style. Whites and creams were chosen for simplicity while maintaining a neutral palette that complements the beach's vibes. Adding touches of green helped seamlessly blend the scene with nearby forest elements, resulting in a cohesive look.

Having completed this successful beach session, I'm now eager to explore the magic of blue hour in new settings. The idea of photographing during this special time in the woods or atop a hill excites me. I'm curious to see how the contrasting colors of blue and green will interact in these different environments, creating a whole new visual experience. Stay tuned as I embark on this journey to capture the beauty of blue hour beyond the beach.
